Why I'm starting a blog in 2020
To be honest I never thought I would ever write articles, let alone in English. I discovered the power of writing while working in my new role as a product manager. When I was a software developer, my writing was descriptive. I described what my changes to the codebase implied, or what we had to do to maintain a healthy codebase.
In my current role, I write to convince internal or external stakeholders to promote a new release or explain a choice we've made regarding a product. As a consequence, I put way more effort in explaining my thoughts properly.
In the beginning, it was more of a chore than anything. However, after a while, I began enjoying the process of writing down my thoughts. I noticed that I was actually the one who got the most out of it.
The process of writing allows me to structure my ideas and articulate my thoughts. It's a powerful way to convince others because it shows that you've put the effort in to understand the subject. At the same time, it forces you to properly think about the ins and outs of what you are working on, and that's why I'm starting to write articles on product management now.
I want to write down what I've learned from my experience, the insight I've received, and what I think is valuable to share. Nevertheless, it's also a selfish initiative. Writing will help me take a step back from my day-to-day routine. I hope it will sharpen my product management knowledge and skills.
Lastly, I want to be part of the growing product community; and the best way to do so is to share.
