Our trip to Iceland is definitely the most beautiful trip we've ever made.
Our expectations where high because of all the hype around this little island, yet it surpass them by quite a margin.
To reduce the cost and get a taste of a roadtrip adventure, we rented a little campervan in Reykjavik.
We were a bit sceptical in the beginning (mostly because of praticalities such as toilet and shower) but in the end, it was a great decision. It allows us to explore the island without too much constraints.
Looking at the two images above, one can easily understand that driving around the country is a magical experience.
Overall, we didn't encounter many cars on the road.
It was a different story for the sheeps. Those guys were literally everywhere.
Iceland is famous for its incredible waterfalls. We weren't disappointed.
If you look closely at the image above, we'll see white dots on the left side. Those aren't dust on your screen, but birds. See below.
One of our most memorable memories was Jökulsárlón.
We spent hours there to admire the little iceberg laying on the black beach. It was just surreal.
Even though the island seems rough and unfriendly, we were impressed by the wildlife. Especially underwater.
Húsavik is well known for whale watching. It is expensive, but totally worth it in our opinion. It's not something we'll forget anytime soon.
Actually the whale did an impressive jump out of the water, but we were so surprized that we didn't think about taking a picture on the moment.
As you'll see on the next images, the landscapes vary enormously.
The day right before our departure, the weather was moody. Well, as belgians, we felt at home ;-)
In conclusion, Iceland was a big surprise for us. It was the first time we'd ever rented a campervan so we were a bit sceptical at first sight. But after a few days, we knew it was going to be an amazing trip.
I would recommend such a trip to anyone. It so different from what we've been used to, one can only be pleasantly surprized by such beauty.
